Terms of Use
Findings, not bindings. This site reports what Tribal Nations and other governments have done on the public record. It is a resource for people doing their own work, not proof of anything, and not advice.
What this is
AI in Indian Country is a biweekly brief published by Wiyaka Studios, with a Data Center Tracker and a calendar maintained alongside it. It is journalism and a reference record. It is published freely and asks nothing of you: there are no accounts, no subscriptions and nothing to buy.
It is not advice, and it binds no one
Nothing here is legal, financial, engineering, environmental or policy advice. Reading it creates no professional relationship of any kind. The brief has no authority over any Tribal Nation, government, agency or company, and nothing published here decides, obligates or constrains anybody.
If a decision in front of you turns on something you read here, take it to your own counsel, your own technical advisors and the originating government. That is what this site is for: to tell you the thing exists so you can go and check it.
A living record, current to a date
The brief publishes on the first and third Monday. The Tracker is maintained by hand between issues and carries the issue and date it is current to, printed on the page. Positions change. A Nation recorded as opposing a project in September may permit one in March, and the reverse is just as true. An entry describes an action on the record at a moment, never a permanent characterization of a Nation.
This site will contain errors. It has contained them before, and when that has been pointed out the record has been corrected and the correction published in place rather than quietly folded in.
A resource, not proof
The authoritative record of what a Tribal Nation decided is that Nation's own instrument — its resolution, ordinance, executive order, minutes or filing — and that Nation's own office. Where one of those documents has been published, this site links to it so you can read it yourself. Where none has been found published, the entry says so, because that absence is worth knowing too.
Do not rely on this site as evidence. Not in a proceeding, not in a procurement, not in due diligence, not in a filing, and not as the basis of a representation to anyone else. It is a finding aid. Go to the source.
How an entry gets here
The standard is published so you can hold the site to it. An entry in the Tracker requires a public, reported action with three parts, all of them present:
- An actor. A governing body of that Nation — a Council, a Board, a General Council, or an officer speaking officially. Not a member, not a resident, not "the community."
- An action. Something that body did: passed, voted, filed, signed, seated, wrote, declared, partnered, opened.
- A date. When it did it.
A Nation named in a list of neighbours, described as downstream or within so many miles, quoted through an individual speaking for themselves, or recorded as not having responded to a request for comment is mentioned, not reported, and does not become an entry. Every entry names a source you can open.
The Tracker is curated by hand and is not generated from the issues. It carries Nations the brief has not written about, and it may leave out Nations the brief has.
No affiliation, and no one is spoken for
Wiyaka Studios is an independent studio. This publication does not represent, speak for, act on behalf of, or claim the endorsement of any Tribal Nation, Tribal organization, inter-Tribal body, government agency or company. Appearing on this site is not an endorsement of that party, and is not that party's endorsement of this site.
The names, seals and marks of Tribal Nations and other organizations belong to them. They appear here only to identify who did what, in the ordinary course of reporting.
Corrections
If something here is wrong about you, your Nation or your organization, say so and it will be looked at. This is the most important paragraph on the page.
Write to [email protected]. Tell us what the entry says, what is wrong with it, and — if you can — what the record actually shows. You do not need to supply a document. A note from a Nation's own office that an entry mischaracterizes it is reason enough to take the entry down while it is checked.
Corrections are published, dated, and placed on the page that carried the error. The brief does not revise the past silently.
If you are a Nation named here
You can ask for a correction, for added context in your own words, or for your entry to be removed. A request from a Nation's government to remove its own entry will be honoured; a publication about Tribal data sovereignty does not get to argue with a Nation about the handling of that Nation's record.
Documents published by a Nation are linked, never copied or re-hosted here. If a Nation takes a document down, this site does not keep a copy of it.
Links to other sites
The brief links out constantly, and those destinations are not ours. We do not control them, do not endorse them by linking, and are not responsible for what they publish or what they do with your visit. Links on Tribal and municipal sites break often, and a link that worked when an issue was published may not work when you read it.
Quoting and reuse
Issues may be quoted and cited freely with attribution to AI in Indian Countryand a link to the original. Please do not republish an issue whole, present this material as your own, or present it as an official, legal or authoritative record of any government's action. The underlying documents and third-party reporting carry their own rights, held by their own authors and publishers.
Privacy
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, embeds no trackers, and has no forms, logins or mailing list. Nothing about your visit is collected by us, because there is nothing here to collect it with. The site is served by Cloudflare, which keeps the ordinary server logs any host keeps; if you write to the address above, we will have your email because you sent it.
